"As Sytner Group's Head of Learning and Development I have been on a brilliant career journey. When I joined nine years ago, the company was smaller and my role then, as Group Training & Development Manager, focused on sourcing and managing our external trainers and courses.
Gradually, as we increased in size, the development of internal Programmes, Courses and Workshops has become vital to the underpinning of our Group Commitments and cultural change. This has been a period of great challenge both in designing events that the company was proud to promote as ‘industry leading’ and in gaining buy-in from everyone across the Group as well as our manufacturer partners.
In the first part of this year, I was able to increase the Team size almost two fold. Now our team designs and facilitates over 75% of the Training Workshops we offer. In recognition of my management of this journey, the changing size of my role and the value the L&D now offer meant I was appointed ‘Head of Learning and Development’ for the Group.
Do I think I have the best job going? Most definitely! I have been encouraged to personally develop and flourish. I work with a superb Team around me where everyone gives their all. Every day is different, fun, exciting and full of different challenges. I get to meet and host team members on a daily basis at our specially created Learning and Development Centre in Leicester. Who else can say their job can have a direct influence on how colleagues are trained, supported and developed and to know that in my job I can really make a difference?!"
