Elite Technician Challenge Final 2020 - Theory
With over 600 entrants entering this year’s competition, we’re down to just three finalists from each of our participating manufacturer partners. All of our finalists are competing to be named as an ‘Elite Technician’ and to win our new for 2020 prize: a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the NASCAR All-Stars Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Also new for 2020, we’re proud to have welcomed entrants and finalists from Agnew Group and CarShop, our Used Car Supermarket Division. Following their success at last year’s competition, the Apprentice and Multi-brand categories have once again returned, ensuring that all of our Technician colleagues and Apprentices have the chance to enter the competition.
As with previous years, the final is split into two halves – theory and practical. The first portion, which was held on 20th February 2020 with the theory exam, saw our 39 finalists taking on a theory test which has been specially designed by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI). The test will task our Technicians with questions regarding everything from day-to-day vehicle servicing to unique vehicle problem solving.
This year, we're proud to have introduced the Glenn Wrigley Award at the Theory final. The award has been introduced in memory and honour of Glenn Wrigley, a two-time Elite Technician winner for Bentley, who sadly passed away recently. As well as winning two years running, Glenn still holds the highest theory test score of all-time.
We’ll be keeping our social accounts updated throughout the competition, so make sure to head over to Facebook, Instagram or Linkedin to keep up-to-date with everything that’s happening.
The second half of the final – the practical challenge – has been set for Wednesday 18th March 2020.
This is where finalists are presented with a real car from each of their respective brands. They will then have to diagnose a number of faults against the clock. Once time is called, the finalists will have to create a personal video presentation explaining the faults, as they would in the dealership, using our sponsor CitNOW’s app.

We’re proud to say that we operate a strong ‘one team ethos’ and always seek to nurture and reward talent within the Group. Achieving a low turnover of colleagues, we were delighted to be named as the 2019 Best UK Retailer to Work For by Glassdoor; beating the likes of Apple, IKEA and Dunelm in an unsolicited survey entirely completed by colleagues across the Group.
