Sytner Group Elite Technician 2018

23 January 2019

Sytner Group Elite Technician 2018

As part of their on-going commitment to industry-leading career development and to recognise outstanding performance, Sytner the UK’s leading Motor Group, hosted the final of their 2018 “Elite Technician” competition yesterday, (14th March).

Having begun with over 300 entrants, a series of online formal assessments saw the three highest scoring technicians from each of the 10 competing brands, arrive at the Stoneleigh Park venue in Warwickshire to take part in the final event, the Practical Challenge.

Working against the clock with a time limit of just 1 hour and 15 minutes, the 30 competitors had to use all of their skills and knowledge to identify and diagnose a variety of real-world vehicle failures. In addition to this, the technicians were required to use 15 minutes to record a video describing the faults and repairs to be effected, just like they would in a dealership environment.

The event was carried out under the supervision of technical inspectors from the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) and enjoyed primary sponsorship from Shell Helix Motor Oils, with Pirelli also providing support.

With a once in a lifetime prize of an all-expenses paid VIP trip to the Detroit Grand Prix at stake, the finalists waited nervously for the IMI judges to review and validate the scores before the overall winner from each of the 10 brands were announced.

Congratulating the ten winners, Sytner Group CEO, Darren Edwards said “last month we were named both the best large Dealer Group and best overall Retailer at the AM Awards and these are accolades I am extremely proud of. Our skilled technicians are a crucial factor in our future success and initiatives like this not only recognise our top performers, but also really set us apart from our competitors”.

At Sytner Group we like to ‘celebrate success’ and reward talent, so the Detroit Grand Prix trip was the perfect way for our 10 winners to be part of this!
