When did you start working at Sytner Group?

I started working for Sytner Group in September 2014.

If someone wanted to become an Assistant Accountant, what key skills and attitude would they need?

An eye for detail and to be able to work under pressure is key, especially during the month end accounts production. A can-do attitude, the ability to problem solve and being approachable and helpful always helps.

What is your favourite part of your job?

The month end accounts process. There are 5 working days to the accounts month so there are many deadlines to meet and crucial documents that need to be produced by a certain day. The pressure of working to strict deadlines is great!

Three words that sum up the people in your team?

Hard-working, friendly, family.

What does your place of work do to help its colleagues maintain work-life balance?

We have a ‘One Team committee’ and they organise football, go-karting and other events like that to encourage us to do things outside of work.

How do you know you are making a difference?

The management team use the reports and documents which we produce in the accounts department and they use these to help make decisions and plan. Without them it would make it difficult for them to do their jobs. I’ve recently had some really great feedback from the Divisional Finance Director too which is amazing!

Can you tell me about the culture in your workplace?

We’ve got a positive culture in our team, we are more like family and all get along just like it! We all help each other to achieve targets and deadlines.

How have you developed since working for Sytner?

I started working for Sytner as an Accounts Trainee and through the support and development Sytner provide, I am now the Assistant Accountant at one of the top BMW dealerships.

What’s been one of your proudest moments working at Sytner?

Getting promoted to Assistant Accountant.

What advice would you give to recent new hires?

Work hard and build great relationships with the people you work with and you’ll see the rewards.

If you could go back and give yourself some career advice when you were 15 years old, what would it be?

Dream Big! If you really want to achieve something or succeed in what you are doing, focus and make it a priority. Studying and putting all the hours in to work hard is only temporary, the rewards are permanent.
